Hmmm, that’s a doosy of a bend in the ol’ shaft you’ve got there (check photo @ 1:20). In my day I’ve only seen 7 or 8 tacks with a similar problem. In my experience, the most effective method for fixing it is to gently massage the kink out between a firm thumb and forefinger. Roll for a few hours before the intended results are achieved. This is a labour intensive remedy, I know, but your tack (and your customers) will thank you dearly with many more years of continued use.

I have a ‘87 black one. Oh, I remember the summers on the hill at night with my friends, watching the stars with that pin. It has been appraised at $0.45! It is fully mint condition, all original parts and has never been restored, due to proper care in a climate-controlled environment to prevent rush. I still take it out to the drive and wash and wax it every weekend, even if it hasn’t been used.
