I always look at this as two equivalent ratios. A 20% discount really means 80% of the full price so:
1600/FP = .8/1 Where FP is "Full Price"
To solve any equivalent ratio problem you multiply the numerator of the first ratio by the denominator of the second, then divide the product by the numerator of the second. I wish I could draw this out freehand, because it looks easier when you can show it graphically, but the equation ends up looking like this.
1600 x 1 / 0.8 = FP References :
