This is my back up Pro-sumer video camera that has been my work horse. This is specifically for my advertising purposes. I wanted to show a daylight shot, a slow pan, a fast zoom in/out, and the image stabilizer (it was not filmed on a Tri-pod). This camera has a few blems, in auto mode it is sometimes a bit slow to auto-focus (as you may see in this shot), the plastic piece that goes over the infrared is missing, and so is the "lock" on the handle. It is not perfect, but I am not asking top dollar on this particular GL1.

The XL has a better …
The XL has a better lens for letting light in, so for shooting low lighting situations, I would expect you will be happier with the XL over the GL. If you were shooting in daylight, I cannot tell a significant difference between the two cameras. The largest noticeable difference is the lens for both depth and lighting.
