The state of California is getting in on the act with what might be the mother of all garage sales.
Forklift loads of "stuff" is getting set out for the great California garage sale. It's not the first state garage sale but it is probably the biggest -- with promises of great savings.
"It's a good opportunity for folks to come in, especially in this economy, and buy something they really need," said Eric Lamoureux of the Department of General Services, which is conducting the garage sale.
Lamoureux said buyers can expect credenzas for $40, maybe even less. Cell phones will also be at a fraction of the cost of new, while computers can be had for around $50 and Sacramento Kings bobblehead collections will also be for sale.
Hundreds of cars are up for auction. Expect to pay between a $1,000 and $4,000 for most. While buyers will get a deal, officials warn there won't be any test drives. Credit cards or cashier's checks will be accepted for vehicle purchases.
